„The Expert in Anything Was Once a Beginner”

How it all started

Jurgita Jurksiene’s tourism journey began when she was 18 years old and started to work in one of the hostels in Vilnius. She really liked her job and at the age of 19 she moved to Klaipeda. After renting a property here she began her own accommodation business and soon opened Klaipeda Hostel with her husband.

Career development

Jurgita noticed that she was very interested in communicating with people who come to her hostel. The woman was also working in a travel agency at the same time, because she really liked to present Lithuania to tourists. Jurgita and her husband started traveling, visiting foreign countries, watching what hostels have on offer in other countries.

Over time, the number of rooms in the couple’s hostel increased. Soon they bought some more  apartments they are renting now. The couple started offering additional tourism services: excursions, bicycle rental, shuttle services.

Plans for the future

The couple want to set up a tourism information centre or travel agency near the hostel where they could offer more tourism services.

„ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE”

Life is like a book, some chapters are happy, some sad, some exciting and some mysterious. If you never turn the page, you will never know what the next step will be. One step out could bring you a totally different world, couldn’t it?

When I was a kid, I had two dreams. One was to be a teacher and the other one – a tour guide. In China, we have always appreciated the importance of the teacher. After graduation in 2007 I became a college English teacher. From time to time I did some translation assignments for the international office in my college and I started to have a better understanding of the idea that language was not only a communication tool but reflects cultures and traditions. Since then I have been adding necessary cultural information while teaching and also have been encouraging my students to do research and make comparisons between Chinese and English.

In 2012, I was recommended to be an assistant of an Australian professor from UMIT who provided a special training on Aged Care Certificate and sent to Melbourne to learn the assessment part. It was the first time I went abroad. It...

„GRAB A COFFEE AND A TRIP”

I am from a little seaside town in Bulgaria. In my hometown tourism and hospitality have always been the main part of people’s life. Since I was a child I have wanted to be part of my town’s life, so I decided to study Tourism in college.

After my graduation I came back home and started searching for a job. I realized that it was more difficult than I expected. My dream was to be a tour guide, but in small seaside towns there isn’t much opportunity to find such a job. It’s kind of a stereotype that tourists come to place like this just for lying on the beach and having a relaxing day near the sea. So you can easily find any other job in hospitality, but not as a tour guide.

During the whole summer I searched for the dream job and worked in my parent’s coffee shop. I realized there were a lot of tourists having their morning coffee in our place and planning their daily program. They consider me a local and often ask me for help – to recommend a nice place for a walk after sunbathing and swimming, to recommend a...

„Save the world is a mission possible”

As child my life long ambition was to travel and save the world. As 1989 the communistic regime in Czechoslowakia collapsed and the world opened up to me. I left to Germany to learn languages. After coming back I got a dream job, I was the first tourism director of the Town of Český Krumlov, the UNESCO World Heritage and world-known destination. In the early nineties it was a really challenge and uphill struggle. As a director of Czech Tourism Bureaus in Vienna and Berlin I gained experience in international tourism. To be the vice-mayor of the town of Český Krumlov was for me the honour. Business Development Manager position in Eurotours Kitzbühel brought me a wide range of sales and marketing skills and knowledge. Since 2016 I have been working as a CEE Market- manager at Upper Austria Tourism Authority.

I love to share my experience and skills with young tourism professionals and students, to be a guest speaker at universities is a mission. „My Dreams Come True”

Roughly two weeks before the final state exam at the University College of Business in Prague, I was hired as a Product Manager of the Šumava region for the South BohemianTourism Authority. Personally, as a student of the tourism program, it was a dream come true for me. Thanks to my education purely in tourism, I have always done my job very professionally and completely honest to the best of my knowledge and conscience. This was also reflected in my career progression, and within 3 years, I worked my way up to Head of Domestic Tourism in the South Bohemian Tourist Board.

I am currently on maternity leave. Coincidentally I gave birth to my baby at the same time as the pandemic Covid-19 begins. Perhaps thanks to maternity leave I have the opportunity to closely monitor a large number of destination management organizations across the Czech Republic and abroad. How they deal with this situation, what strategies/plans they choose, and their outputs. I continue with my education - follow trends - participate in online conferences and work part-time in social media.

Možná i díky mateřské dovolené, mám nyní možnost bedlivě sledovat velké množství organizací destinačního managementu napříč Českou republikou a zahraničím.

„I utilize my knowledge of tourism in start-up with great potential”

After I graduated from college, I had lots of different jobs until I finally landed as a receptionist in a small hotel in Prague's city center. After a few years at this position and after my return from a short stay in London, I was offered to work for the same hostel as a social director, i. e. I was bringing people together during the mutual activities which I created. This led me to become a professional tour guide on my own. With my clients' increasing demand, I started to cooperate with my colleagues, and I decided to establish a small company called Prague Local Friends

Before thinking of returning to school and finishing my Master's degree, which finally happened then, and I am happy I did so. In the end, this turned to be an excellent idea - not only because of the new skills and information I got but mainly because of the contacts and friends I got. Last year I got the job as a tour director for Cosmos, but due to Covid-19, this was postponed and all my activities. But I got the position of content manager at SmartGuide, where I really utilize my...

Celý svůj profesní život působím v cestovním ruchu a hotelnictví.

Çocukluğumdan beri, Eski Mardin’in dar sokaklarında yolda geçen gezginlere kendi evimi ve mahallemi tanıtmaya çalışırdım.

My adventure with tourism started when I was 15 years old by participating in a local cooking competition and getting a degree. Although I was very interested in cooking until this age, I perceived this case as a hobby rather than a profession. I decided to participate in a food competition program organized within the scope of an EU Project in Mardin and where world-famous chefs will give points. Then I began to prepare with "Arrog" - a kind of stuffed meatballs specific to the Mardin region- which I could not get enough of eating and after eating, which made me feel the only satiety-the sense of fullness- in my life at that time. I cooked the stuffed meatballs and took them to the contest for registration. when I saw so many people and delicious dishes at the competition stand, I looked at my plate and felt sad. Because it was too dim in presentation and quantity compared to other dishes. In this case, while I was thinking to myself whether I should ever enter the competition, it was my turn, then the officials registered my name and the dishes to enter the competition.

The media, the chefs of famous...

Dva hotela smo vključili v prepoznavno Zeleno shemo slovenskega turizma.

„Tourism is expanding horizons”

I started working in tourism during my student years, first as a tourist guide (it turned out that this, initially a temporary student work, lasted for fourteen years 😊). After completing my studies in geography and ethnology, majoring in tourism, I started working in a travel agency as a travel organizer. Later, I was in charge of  business events at the hotel sales department. Further on I ran the hotel. I worked in the management of hotel companies in Bled and Kranjska Gora. At the end of 2019, I joined the team of the Chamber of Tourism and Hospitality of Slovenia as a director.

On my business path, I have always been glad to participate in the introduction of new services and I find myself lucky to be surrounded by very good employees. Let me mention Wellness Živa, Family Hotel Savica, Evening of three chefs, glamping Ecological village of forest villas, Dinner of three countries, Path of famous athletes, Culinary path through Kranjska gora, Best donut of Slovenia and many more. We included two hotels in the recognizable Green Scheme of Slovenian tourism.

The primary focus of our activities in this difficult and demanding period we are facing right...

„Between study and stove!!”

„From Student to Restaurant Manager”

I am Davide Scaccia 24 years from Supino, former student of the i.p.s.s.e.o.a. of Ceccano.

Today I will briefly tell you my story/climb to success in the professional world. In 2010 and after the middle school cycle I  enrolled in the Vocational school for Catering, a choice made with such determination and passion. My debut in the working world began at the age of 15 when I found a young entrepreneur from Boville Ernica who was looking for a boy for his business with the desire to learn a trade... I started chop some mozzarella, cut some pachino and season pizzas. For months, since October 2012, all my Saturdays were spent there next to that wood-burning oven with a great desire to learn and grow.  I became more and more fond of that place and of those colleagues of mine who later became friends to whom I owe so much gratitude. Over the years, I have also faced new experiences through training internships (school-work alternation) for 2/3 weeks between the Dolomites in San Martino di Castrozza and Agordo in Bellunese. In the last year of high school I won an "Erasmus scholarship" and together with 3 other companions we...
